Jaguar Land Rover secured three top motoring accolades at the sixth edition of the Middle East Car of the Year Awards (MECOTY), held in Abu Dhabi this week.
Attended by top media representatives and major automotive names from across the region, Jaguar was celebrated with the title of best “Sub-Compact Premium SUV” for the E-PACE, followed by success for the Jaguar XF Sportbrake, which won the award for best “Midsize Executive Estate”. Meanwhile, Land Rover’s Range Rover Sport SVR scooped the award for the best “Midsize Performance SUV”, recognising the car’s superior status as the most capable performance SUV in the Middle East.
The MECOTY jury comprises 19 motoring journalists from across Middle East and Levant, and the awards recognise the region’s most exceptional vehicles.
“We’re thrilled to see Jaguar Land Rover’s extraordinary vehicle line up shine for another year, especially up against such strong competition,” commented Bruce Robertson, Managing Director of Jaguar Land Rover Middle East and North Africa. “The MECOTY awards are one of the the region’s most coveted celebration of automotive excellence, and we’re proud of Jaguar Land Rover MENA’s wins across both brands. Recognition from our peers is just reward for our continued drive to deliver unmatched, best-in-class driving experiences for our discerning customers,” added Robertson.
Jaguar XF Sportbrake - Midsize Executive Estate of the Year
The XF Sportbrake is part of the Jaguar's award-winning XF saloon family. The XF was launched in 2007 and has now claimed almost 200 global awards. The saloon’s Sportbrake sibling delivers equally impressive performance, design and technology, with greater practicality and space.
With sports car-derived handling, a practical 565-litre load space and advanced convenience and safety features, the XF Sportbrake has the best of Jaguar design and technology.
Jaguar E-PACE - Sub-Compact Premium SUV of the Year
The Jaguar E-PACE is a five-seat, compact SUV that packs the design and performance of a Jaguar sports car into a spacious, practical and connected all-wheel-drive vehicle.
Trademark Jaguar driving dynamics and design put the brand’s sports car DNA in a practical design packed with advanced technologies to keep you connected.
The exterior design is inspired by the Jaguar F-TYPE sports car and characterised by the distinctive Jaguar grille, muscular proportions, short overhangs and powerful haunches that give the E-PACE a bold and purposeful stance, instantly communicating dynamic agility. Jaguar sports car DNA is also evident in the fast sweep of the roofline and the distinctive side window graphic.
Range Rover Sport SVR - Midsize Performance SUV
In the case of the new Range Rover Sport SVR, that performance comes courtesy of the marque’s well-proven 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine which has been uprated to produce 575PS and 700Nm of torque. The net result of this power uplift when combined with 26kg of weight saving measures is a 0 – 100km/h acceleration time of 4.5 seconds and a maximum speed of 283km/h.
Dealing with this type of power requires a very specialised chassis set up, hence modifications that provide a more dynamic steering and handling experience for the driver. With less pitching during acceleration and braking, improved turn in and greater mid corner grip, the enhancements ultimately deliver greater body control in the most demanding driving scenarios. The driving experience is also improved sonically through enhanced powertrain exhaust sound quality.
